Yes, you read that right – Summer School 2021 is (well should be) happening, albeit a tad different from your previous experiences. The biggest difference being it’s for 2 days only. Possibly for the best as I’m probably not the only one that hasn’t rolled on the floor for a very long time.
You must have heard by now that a small global pandemic scuppered plans for 2020 so, as long as the British folk behave themselves, we won’t be forced to cancel again. Here’s an interesting fact: ‘Sadly the year 2020 saw the first year that an Aikido Fellowship Summer School had not taken place since the early 1960’s.
Currently as it stands, we will be doing contactless Aikido, Ki work and Weapons. Skin-to-skin contact is the issue so we can always throw using our Gi’s. However, following announcements around the 19th July milestone, we may be able to do more of the normal contact material. Martial Arts are categorised differently from other sports, so even though we get an all clear as a nation, we are still governed by any Sport Council decisions. This information will be cascaded to us via the British Aikido Board. - Fingers Crossed.
You may be aware we have a new exciting dedicated Martial Art Gym to host our Summer School this year in Aldershot. It’s already established and is run in conjunction with Fleet Aikido by Sensei Foster Take a look

We ask that where possible you arrive ‘battle dress ready’ because it will relieve the pressure on the small changing rooms and to maintain social distancing. Also, keeping them clear for those that are travelling some distance.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer gradings during this Summer School because we feel it shouldn’t interrupt with us getting back together and practicing. We will offer grading later in the year at our other events.
Please check you have a membership. If not, I will take fees on the day (just in case it’s cancelled).
I will have a supply of membership forms in preparation.
Jo, Boken & Tanto. You would also be
required to bring your own: hand gels, wipes, face masks.
There are no food & drink facilities on site, but there is a Morrisons and Tesco about ½ mile away. I’d suggest planning ahead and buying food/drinks that will not perish within a few hours amidst the dojo heat.
There is a large free car park on-site.
Both days 10am – 3:45pm.
Please arrive no later than 9:30am for mandatory temperature checks and verification of your lateral flow test result.
If you are planning to attend and you are not a ‘local’, don’t forget you’ll need somewhere to stay.
Obviously, if Summer School is forced to cancel, or if you test positive for Covid, fees will be refunded in full.
All personal information obtained from members, whether via the website or other paperwork, will be retained and used for ‘The Aikido Fellowship of Great Britain’ (AFGB) business only Read More.
Understandably, many of you may be apprehensive about mixing with others again, I know I am, but if we ALL adhere to the following instructions, we will stay safe and enjoy the course.
As like many sporting events, attendees are required to perform a Lateral Flow test prior to the event. I ask that you obtain your free Lateral Flow test kits from either your pharmacy or on-line via the government web site: Order
To attend Summer School, we will require a negative test result. Simply follow the test instructions, then using your phone, take a picture of the result.
